It’s not that these people are better at managing their stress—it’s that their attitudes toward helping others gives them more energy, which helps them manage their stress.
“I know it seems a little counterintuitive, that helping others helps yourself—until you really think about it,” says Andy Core, author of Change Your Day, Not Your Life.
“The next time you feel overwhelmed or stressed, sometimes you need to take care of yourself—sometimes you can get more energy, more stress reduction by focusing on helping other people,” he says. “Do that, and I guarantee you will have more energy, less stress and be much more successful.”
