Sara Ross has been writing letters her whole life. A letter that started with, “Dear work, I love you, but something has to change,” sent her on a journey. Despite loving the work she was doing, she felt totally overwhelmed.
On this week’s episode, Ross and In the Details host Karen Allen discuss changing her relationship with work. She shares that she has always been intrigued by questions of why do we do what we do, and why don’t we always do the things we know we should.
“Changing our relationship to work is recognizing what our beliefs are about work, success and what it takes to be successful,” Ross explains. She discusses stepping into your full self and your stand-out zone—those moments when you’re bringing nothing short of your best to the table.
How we deal with obstacles and stresses we face has a large impact on our well-being. “When we feel stress, that means something that matters to us is at risk,” Ross says. She emphasizes being strategic with self-care and recognizing that while self-care can be done alone, it should also include engaging with others we trust.
Sara Ross is a keynote speaker, and the founder and chief vitality officer of the leadership research firm BrainAMPED. Her new book is out today! It’s called Dear Work: Something Has to Change.
