Reframing Your Guilt Trips

Why do we feel guilty for doing what’s best for us? Even thinking about a different route for our lives can lead us down a guilt trip as we anticipate whom we might let down or disappoint.

This week, In the Details host Karen Allen shares how to not get tripped up in moments of guilt that hold no basis and how not to punish ourselves for setting healthy boundaries and taking better care of ourselves. Instead of being distracted by guilt, be brave and do what’s best for you. Shift your thinking away from guilt and instead direct your focus and energy toward bringing your best self to all areas of your life.

Guilt is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “a feeling of deserving blame for offenses.” The definition itself, however, should show us that our guilt is unfounded—what offense have we committed by taking care of ourselves? Allen shares three scenarios in which you might feel guilt, alongside ways to reframe that initial instinct, and discusses the necessity of focusing on the good that will come out of your choices in order to derail the harmful narratives perpetuating our guilt.

In the Details is no longer releasing new episodes on the SUCCESS Podcast Network, but you can still listen to the full conversation below.
