“I’m not a born entrepreneur. By nature, I am insanely lazy.” You think he’s kidding, but he’s not. Tom Bilyeu says all the things he’s accomplished in life—like going from broke to building a billion-dollar business—are because he finally got so fed up that he realized he had to do something different. He had to change his mindset.

“No matter what you’re trying to accomplish in life, it comes down to your ability to manage your own brain chemistry,” he tells the audience at SUCCESS Live Long Beach. He explains how humans are the ultimate adaptation machine because of something called epigenetics: “It’s how you respond to your environment. It’s what makes humans so great. We have this massive ability to change.”

Bilyeu says that to become the greatest of all time in your field, you have two jobs: 1) develop your mindset, and 2) decide that you can get good at anything.

“If you want to be successful, you’re going to have to accept that your beliefs are decisions. You’re deciding to believe that negative thing. You’re deciding to discount positive things. That’s a decision. So you can decide that you can get good at anything, or you can say no, there are limits.” —Tom Bilyeu
